IQRAA Trust National Conference

The Iqraa Trust's first National Conference held from the 1st to the 2nd of July 2009 at the Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel in Durban was one of our most recent initiatives. Its purpose was to improve the performance of all humanitarian organizations in South Africa in general and the Muslim organizations in particular through exchanging experiences of best practice and corporate governance.

The conference was attended by about 200 delegates from various faith-based organizations "Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Hindus" in addition to representatives from the government.

Described as a sharing of wealth and knowledge, the objectives of the conference were:

  1. To evaluate and enhance the role of the Muslim Community and humanitarian organizations in the social upliftment and development of the needy in the society.
  2. To focus on the challenges and opportunities of making optimum use of the resources to maximize the benefits for all South African in need.
  3. To promote partnerships between NGOs and NGOs and government departments. The conference has discussed many humanitarian projects that are being reviewed now with the objective of implementing them on a partnership basis.

An amount of R3 million was dedicated by the Iqraa board of trustees to kick off these projects.

Many informative presentations and researches were presented during the conference covering wide issues like corporate governance, best practices, sustainability of organizations, poverty alleviation, women empowerment, and corporate social responsibility ….etc

We have uploaded all presentations received on the website we developed for the conference for the benefit of all organizations and the public.
