Durbans -Kwazulu-Natal - R 600 000

Islamic Medical Association And Iqraa Trust Community Renal Dialysis Centre The IMA/Iqraa Trust Community Renal Dialysis Centre was launched on Monday
12 November 2007 and is set to provide much needed relief for renal dialysis patients who cannot access treatment from state facilities and also cannot afford private treatment.

Iqraa Trust of South Africa is providing R 600 000 as lead funding for the establishment of the Community Dialysis Centre, which is a first for KZN. The Centre is an initiative of the Islamic Medical Association and is being set up at Shifa Hospital. The Centre was launched at a function at Shifa Hospital where Professor Yacoob Seedat was the guest speaker.

Islamic Medical Association And Iqraa Trust Community Renal Dialysis Centre Renal dialysis has become an essential component of the treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease. State hospitals, because of limited resources, provide dialysis to a restricted number of patients who must comply with certain strict criteria. Unfortunately, a large number of patients are turned away and either have to resort to expensive private care or remain untreated. Iqraa Trust and the Islamic Medical Association want to assist those who are in this precarious position and provide dialysis at a reduced cost or on a free basis indefinitely. Through this project terminally ill renal patients would able to continue to lead productive lives and be beneficial to society.

Islamic Medical Association And Iqraa Trust Community Renal Dialysis Centre The partnership between the IMA, Iqraa Trust and Shifa Hospital in setting up the Community Dialysis Centre typifies what can be achieved if organisations join hands to address the humanitarian needs of the community. The Iqraa Trust has provided funding for the Community Dialysis Centre Project in accordance with its objective of alleviating poverty through providing access to quality healthcare, education and skills training. Islamic Medical Association And Iqraa Trust Community Renal Dialysis Centre The success and sustainability of the project will depend on the support it receives from the wider community especially from other organisations and business enterprises that are willing to commit resources to this project.
