Groote Schuur Hospital - Cape Town

Donation - R170 000

Groote Schuur Hospital was established in 1964 and provides:

  • specialised and super-specialised care for patients
  • world class academic training for interns and residents
  • and is a world renowned research hospital.

The Hospital is most famously known for being the hospital in the world where the first heart transplant took place in 1967.

The Hospital has also operated an Emergency/Trauma Unit since the 1970s.Currently patients in this Unit have to wait for long periods for ultrasound examinations. This will be alleviated significantly largely as a result of the Hospital acquiring a new Ultra Sound Machine which will be funded by a grant of R 170 000 from Iqraa Trust.
