Illima Project

Construction Of A House Destroyed In A Storm - R10 000

Illima, an Inguni word means “people coming together to help each other in the fields either on a rotation or communal basis."

In this Illima project, Iqraa Trust partnered with Islamic Relief Worldwide and eThekwini Municipality in the construction of a house for a Mr Gumede in the Luganda area of Marianhill, Pinetown near Durban. Mr Gumede is mentally challenged, is unemployed and has a family to support. Mr Gumede had been living in a dilapidated shack, which had been destroyed by a storm.

The unique aspect of this project was the practical implementation of the Illima concept, which involved the participation of the three partners, the suppliers of the material required for the construction, the local community and other volunteers who participated in the construction of the house.
