Food Security Project – Vegetable and Food Gardens

Grant – R 375 000

Iqraa Trust has embarked on a vegetable and food garden project in partnership with the Environment and Language Education Trust. Iqraa Trust has committed R 375 000 in funding to this initiative. The project recognizes the urgency to promote the concept of food security and is in line with the very high priority being accorded by Government and especially by the Premier’s office in KwaZulu Natal to the issue (One school, one garden initiative).

The project involves the establishment of ten School Gardens and a similar number of household gardens, the objective being to create an awareness of the importance and need for food security and to promote and encourage the involvement of educators, learners and the community at large throughout the region in the implementation of many more food security projects on a sustainable basis.
